The outgoing 2016 has been quite an interesting one for music lovers.
The industry witnessed very interesting events that made headlines from January till date.
Some
of our favourite artistes were embroiled in controversies, others
released groundbreaking singles and some went a step further to release
albums.
But how much did fans go looking for the songs online? And whose songs was/were the most searched for on Google?
G-World Wide artiste, Kiss Daniel and YBNL boss, Olamide emerged top on the list, claiming 2 spots each.
Here are the top 10 most searched Naija songs on Google 2016.
1 Kiss Daniel – Mama
Nigerian
music sensation and G-World Wide music act, Anidugbe Oluwatobiloba
Daniel, better known by his music name, Kiss Daniel, has claimed the top
spot on Google trends 2016.
His groundbreaking single “MAMA”
which was produced by YBNL in-house producer, Young John, has clinched
the number 1 spot as most searched Nigerian song on Google 2016.
Excited about the stride, Kiss Daniel took to his Instagram to share.
“Mama”
is the most searched Nigerian song on Google for the year 2016 and
JOMBO came 3rd All thanks to the fans around the world #vadocitizens
#No1song #MAMA #MOSTDOWNLOADEDSONGNJO,” he wrote.
2 Tekno – Pana
Award-winning
act and Triple MG front-liner, Tekno, has had quite an amazing career
2016. His single “Pana” paved the way for his successful strides which
has earned him the number 2 spot. Tekno has also been nominated for the
highly coveted “Next Rated artiste” at the Headies awards.
3 Kiss Daniel – Jombo
Kiss
Daniel’s love single “Jombo” claims the number three spot. The song is
off his New Era album. The single was followed up by a befitting video.
4 Olamide – Who You Epp
YBNL
boss and prolific Nigerian rapper, Olamide’s hit single “Who You Epp”
was one of most talked about singles for 2016. Not only did it get
covers (remixes) by other artistes (both big and small), the title “Who
You Epp” became a cliché among Nigerians. It clinches the number four
spot.
5 Lil Kesh – Ishe
YAGI boss and YBNL
affiliate artiste, Lil Kesh takes the number 5 spot as the fifth most
searched song on google. The song was produced by YBNL in-house producer
Pheelz.
6 Falz – Soft Work
Folarin Falana,
better known by his stage name, Falz the bahd guy, has become a
house-hold name and has subtly won our hearts with his comic lyrics,
sense of appeal and versatility.
His Sess produced hit single “Soft
Work”, claims a spot as the 6th most searched song on Google in 2016.
The song is off his “Stories That Touch Album”.
7 Adekunle Gold – Ready
YBNL
afro-pop serial hit-maker, Adekunle Gold, takes the number 7 spot on
Google. This doesn’t come as a surprise for those in the know as his
album “Gold Standard” was a stellar piece of work.
8 Drake – One Dance ft Wizkid & Kyla
American
rapper Drake takes the number 8 spot with his single “One Dance” which
features Nigerian music export, Wizkid and Kyla. The song is what served
as a pedestal for Wizkid’s Grammy nomination.
9 Psquare – Bank Alert
After
the back and forth controversy that trailed their path in 2016, the
Okoye brothers, Psquare, reignited their passion for music with a
welcome back song titled “Bank Alert” which quickly became a fan
favourite. Though it came later this year, it still managed to make its
place as the 9th most searched Nigerian song on Google.
10 Olamide – Abule Sowo
Olamide’s
hit single “Abule Sowo” seals the list claiming the number ten spot.
The song was produced by the usual suspect, Pheelz.
