Under 23 Olympics Bronze winning coach Samson Siasia has revealed that he's bewildered by the 'standoff' between him and Sports Minister Barr. Solomon Dalung.
Siasia's social media standoff with the minister started after the coach complained of the poor treatment and financial incentives he and his players received prior to the Olympics in Rio, Brazil, which then prompted the minister to say he wasn't aware of where the team was pre-Rio and even said he will discipline the U-23 national football team coach, Samson Siasia and every other team official who took to the media to vent his or her frustration, saying they were unethical.
Siasia has now said he doesn't know the offense he committed to the minister .
“As we speak, I don’t know what I have done to offend the Minister. The whole thing is surprising”, Siasia said while in Johannesburg Airport in quotes gotten by Vanguard.
“It’s funny. When he came, he shook hands with us and after shaking the players, he asked where is the coach?. Everybody started laughing. We shook hands again and hugged” Siasia said.
“The environment before the Games was not good but we resolved to weather the storm. The players gave their best. Without necessarily singling out players, Mikel was outstanding. He not only played well, he also motivated the squad with his leadership qualities. Also, Injury did not allow us to use some other good players. Anyway, we’re grateful to win something for Nigerians who showed massive support to us”.

The Oyo state police command has paraded four suspects in connection with the death of a member of the Oyo state House of Assembly, Gideon Aremu, who was shot dead at his residence in Alakia, Egbeda Local government area in Oyo state on July 1st at about 11pm.
One of the suspects, Ayobami Adedeji, an ex-convict who was freed last year, said himself and his gang members were only out to steal from the lawmaker but had to shoot him after they thought he recognized one of them.
"We left a popular drinking joint at Beere, where we smoked Indian Hemp to our satisfaction. We did not have the lawmaker in mind when we took off from Beere. It was when we were looking for who to rob that we saw him in his car. We stopped him as he was about entering his premises and robbed him of his phone and money. We had only one gun. Alhough I was the one that collected the items, I did not know how much money we took from him. I was given only N40,000. Then Abbey just pointed the gun at him and shot him many times. I didn’t know why he killed him. Later I discovered that Abbey lives at Adegbayi too. His mother has a house there. Abbey said he knew the lawmaker. It was Abbey that brought the deal to us"he said
The state police commissioner, Leye Oyebade, said the arrest of one of the suspects with the telephone of the deceased, led to the arrest of the others.
“The initial arrest of one Adeniran Oladapo with the victim’s phone, led to the arrest of other suspects among who is Ayobami Adedeji. He confessed that he belonged to the four-man robbery gang that actually robbed and killed the deceased in front of his house. According to the suspect, they did not know who their victim was. As robbers, their intention was to rob him of his property. He told us that the victim was killed because they thought he identified them due to a torchlight he shone on them.”
The suspects will soon be charged to court.
Coach of Nigeria's Olympic football team, Samson Siasia has revealed that he and his boys are not thinking about the quarter final, and are taking their journey in the football event one game at a time, starting with the last group game against Columbia.
"I think for me and the boys all we are doing now is taking it a game at a time, we are not bothered about the team we will be playing in the quarter finals, let's play Colombia first and from there we will think of our opponents at that stage.' he told theNFF.com
“The issue of the team I will prefer to play in the quarter final stage doesn't arise now; what is uppermost in my mind is getting my boys focused for every game."
Speaking on his defence –line that has been termed as being the weak link in the team, Siasia said:
“As you all can see, today my defence line didn't concede any goal, yes myself and my technical crew worked very hard to correct all the lapses we noticed in our first game and I am happy my boys stood their ground and kept a clean sheet today. All I can say for now is that it's work in progress."

Emmanuel Magbatie, a 47 year old craftsman has been arrested for allegedly defiling an 18-month-old girl in Owutu axis of Ikorodu, Lagos State. According to Vanguard, Magbatie who lived in the same compound as the toddler's parents defiled the little girl last Wednesday.
This came barely a week after the Lagos State Government sought compulsory psychiatric test for rape and other domestic violence offenders in the country.
It was learned that the little girl was rushed to Ikorodu General Hospital by her parents for treatment after the alleged defilement where it was confirmed that the child had been defiled. The toddler's mum confirmed that the person who defiled her child was her neighbor.
The following day, she was taken to Mirabel Centre at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, Ikeja, for test to help the child overcome issues that may arise after.
Coordinator of Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team, DSVRT, Mrs. Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, said that DSVRT facilitated the transfer of the case from the Owutu Police Station to the gender desk of the state Police Command in Ikeja last Friday to expedite action on the case. Adding that Magbatie would be detained and charged to court for proper judgment.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, during a courtesy visit to the Gbong Gwom Jos, His Royal Majesty, Da Jacob Buba, in his palace in Jishe yesterday, said that the Nigerian Army had defeated Boko Haram terrorist group and have also stopped it from re-grouping anywhere else in the country.
Buratai said:
“Our efforts in the North-East have really paid off. As you can recall, the incessant bombing of market places and different places of worships and high population areas has virtually stopped now. I can assure you and the people of Plateau State that they will never witness Boko Haram attacks like you witnessed in the past.
“The Army has not only succeeded in routing them from their camps in the North-East, we have been able to block these criminal elements from crossing down to these areas or building their camps anywhere in Nigeria.
“I want to particularly commend you on your role as the Gbong Gwom Jos, for all the moral support you gave us through wise counsel. I want to also acknowledge the cooperation of Plateau people.”
General Buratai, also spoke at the pull out of seven retired Generals of the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers at the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineers, NASME, Makurdi, saying that without discipline and professionalism, there wont be any core values of the service remaining.
Represented by Major General Lincoln Ogunewe, Chief of Policy and Planning, Buratai praised.

Linda Ikeji has moved to her new luxurious office complex situated at Lekki. For many years, the blogger has been using her home as office and many has advised her to get a formal office setting.
According to Sunday Scoop, Linda moved into an office whose rent has been estimated to be about N10m per annum in highbrow Lekki Phase 1.
The building, we learnt, has been partitioned into 22-room offices, housing studio, editing suite, two lounges, VIP waiting room, radio booth, section for her yet- to- be unveiled Linda Ikeji Music, LIS administrative office, bloggers office and her own office.
Ikeji, who has engaged the services of top professionals to man different departments, is launching two additional businesses that are online related, TV programmes and an online radio.
One of the businesses she will be launching is Linda Ikeji Music, which we learnt will be in competition with NotjustOk. The other one is LIS which might have something to do with fashion.
